new finds in photo...photo search homework

i'm teaching photography this year and i'm very excited about it. i have this great class that is completely on the ball with mature behavior and enthusiasm. we talked about journal keeping and making a work of art at of what they learn. not only the photographs but the art of learning about photography. so i've been looking at tons of photo sites and photo books. i found a great site looking for katy grannan. she advertises her model searches from small town grocery store papers and flyers. she lets her models decide where and how they are photographed. many are in their own environments, wearing what they want, if wearing anything at all, in the pose they choose to have. i love this idea. what insight these photos show. she has moved her latest photos from their environments to near by parks, in nature, in very compromising situations. check her out along with others at gallery 51 . your job is to mach this pics with the artist found in this site. have fun!

House & Garden Photo's

Sorry I’ve been so lame with posts lately. I get on a roll and then life hits you with busy work and posting on my blog got on the wayside. Today was my first day with my students and my new adventure in teaching photography. I was so nervous since I haven’t stepped into a dark room in 20 years!!! My class is absolutely perfect though…very energetic and enthusiastic learners who I think will appreciate my teaching as a painter as oppose to a technical photographer. Not that that doesn’t have great merits…. anyway, we dove a little bit into composition and aesthetics. Looked onto design*sponge today to see her post on house ands garden photographs that are for sale through this site…check them out!!! Great photo’s from the 40’s and 50’s,my favorite period of style. I posted some my favorites..I really love the couple in the living room…all the furniture is made from pine..reminds me of IKEA This photo is by André Kertész and its titled Quiet Night at Home, 1948..i love the board man in his suit playing cards alone while his wife reads her book on the couch. I imagine what the former owners of my house were doing in 1948 on a quiet evening. I would love to know what my house looked like during each decade.

lazy afternoon

Caught the critters around my house taking advantage of a very hot afternoon...at least if you are outside in the elements...the rest of us soaked up the AC as I worked quite hard taking pictures of my wares for my etsy shop.... all the pillows and most of the tote bags are posted and officially up for sale.... while I was surrounded by lazy cats and our new friend, who i named ruthie, spent most of her day on the window sill in between feeding her babies. Ruthie has created a marvelous nest in the ivy right below our windowsill...quite smart! louie hangs out a lot in the window watching over his new companions.
